New Home Communities in Aurora

As a city that calls itself "The City of Lights" and whose motto is, "A City Second to None," you can imagine that Aurora, Illinois has always had lofty goals. After all, it was the first to adopt an all-electric-street lighting system in 1881. That's why they named it the "City of Lights."

The city holds a spectacular festival of lights every year in commemoration- and it's the largest event of its kind in the Chicago area, featuring a mile-long display. This is just one of many exciting activities planned by the warm and friendly people of Aurora, designed to make everyone feel welcome and cherished all year round.

This historic city is built around the Fox River, and the downtown is centered on Stolp Island. The city is divided into three sections to the east and west of the river and is home to captivating architectural masterpieces by Frank Lloyd Wright, Ludwig Mies Van der Rohe, George Grant Elmslie and Bruce Goff. There is also a floating 53,000sq ft, gaming casino, with an amazing 1200 gaming positions, which is a major attraction, drawing visitors to Aurora like moths to a light bulb.

The architectural highlights don't end there, either: Aurora boasts 50 of the few remaining catalogue homes. The homes, most of which came without indoor plumbing and central heating, are a collector's item today and some are preserved as unofficial historic sites. A major Hindu Temple, the Sri Venkateswara Swami Temple, adds to the architectural beauty of the cosmopolitan city of Aurora. The Paramount Theater, a large live performance theater on the American register of historic sites has pride of place in Aurora.

Don't end your explorations there. The Phillips Park Zoo, located in Phillips Park, the Leland Tower, a former hotel, once the tallest building in Illinois outside the Chicago city limits is here and so is Aurora Public Library and a branch campus of Waubonsee Community College.

People here are carefree, outgoing and fun, judging by the many music and food festivals the love to host like the Downtown Alive festival of live music and good food, held every Friday and Saturday night in the summer; Blues on the Fox, featuring national blues artists, is held on Friday and Saturday on Father's Day weekend, where close to 15,000 people attend. Local artists join property owners and residents every three months to host the Aurora ArtWalk, where visitors and residents mingle to display, admire and buy creative pieces of art, inspired by the culture and values of the people of Aurora.

The city of lights is adequately served by road, air and rail and is the final stop of the Burlington, Northern Santa Fe line of the Metra commuter rail system, allowing rail service into Chicago. The city also has a stop at the Rt. 59 station on the BNSF Line. The local bus company operates six days a week, excluding Sundays.

The Aurora Municipal Airport located in Sugar Grove, Illinois, is a reliever airport for Chicago's O'Hare and Midway Airports. Two hospitals, one on the west side, Provena Mercy Medical Center, and one in Fox Valley, Rush-Copley Medical Center serve Aurora community alongside independent clinics and medical groups spread throughout the city.

The Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA) and Aurora University point to a thriving education sector. According to recent census, 26 percent of Aurora's population over the age of twenty-five hold a bachelor's degree. There are more than thirty public schools within Aurora city limits, serving residents of Aurora and neighboring communities.
