The house seems like it was rushed to meet our closing date, which we could have easily pushed back. Details such as internet availability was vague and misguided. Still don't have internet after nearly 2 months. Sales consultant seemed clueless about the tree removal behind house. Paint work is sub par. Floor is unlevel in several places throughout the house. Drainage around the house seems to be an after thought. Inconsistencies from house to house with same floor plan in the sections. Wrong fence per groves code installed on back fence line. Chesmar homes are building fences to code next to us. The construction manager has done a good job at meeting our needs with fixes. Seems the mentality is to build fast with disregard to fit and finish and try to fix under warranty instead of just taking the time to get it right the first time. We love our house and neighborhood, but there is a lot of room for improvement. ... More

Bricks uneven and mortar not installed correctly. The brick layer came back once to correct it and made it worst and use the wrong color mortar. The drainage in not slopped correctly and water sits in the backyard. The warranty representative suggestive that I purchase grass that will grow in damp areas. Sprinkler system not zoned correctly. I had to turn off half the sprinklers in order to water some of the grass that was replaced. If not then the area that does not drain water accumulates and just sit there longer then 48 hours. ... Our house had no heat or AC for the first 2 weeks of owning it. We found the issue on the final walkthrough but we signed a form accepting it so we wouldn't delay closing. The weather was not too bad but we still expected it to be fixed. One weekend it was going to be very cold. Nothing had been done so I submitted a warranty request on the Thursday before and it wasn't even looked at until the Monday afterwards. We put an electric heater in out infant daughter's room but it was cold in the house. When I talked to the person on Monday she told me I should have just called the contractor directly and started explaining how they don't check the warranty requests every day. Thanks, next time I wont use the warranty claim form.... Eventually they got it fixed but when I buy something brand new I expect the basic systems to function. Other issues were minor like the stair spindles being crooked, gate wouldn't close, some surfaces weren't painted that should have been. They fixed all of those but again, if I am rating quality of workmanship and materials, even a 3 is generous given our experience. Plus they need a street sweeper in the neighborhood. I understand its under construction, but they don't even try to keep the streets clean. Our cars are filthy all the time. Again, a minor annoyance, but an annoyance nonetheless. ... More

I feel like Highland was misleading and only concerned about closing out the project and getting paid. I still have items on my final punch walk (before close in Oct.) that have not been complete. The overall quality is Mediocre at best and when we make request to have items fixed we are told this is normal. We did not even consider another building during this process, which was my first mistake.. Coming from a person in commercial real estate construction, I hope things improve or you will be considered like everyone else. ... More

I thought I was buying a decent home until i moved in. The FIRST weekend, the plumbing backs up on us!. There was a stake in one of the trees that a genius landscaper stuck so deep into the ground that it cracked the cheap pipe that was used for the plumbing. To their credit, highland homes fixed it the same day. Week later, i discovered a roof leak due to a leaky roof jack. This was fixed a few days later. Now ive realized the ac installer that highland choses for my area is one of the worst rated hvac installers in Houston. They never tested the static pressure on the ac, the coils were full of sand, several vents were installed backwards, etc. I expected far better than this considering the price of the home . ... For the price paid, the builder should hire painters and workers who will pay more attention to details. The materials put into the home are great, but the way in which it was thrown together is a hug disappointment. Even after the initial and final walk they, you mark and it seems the workers shake their head as though they will correct the issues and I can back to find the same things undone. ... More

We recently moved to a brand new valuable home with excitement but turned out to be a miserable life living inside the house from day 1. We are seeing many mice inside the brand new home from day 1. I wish Highland homes should have informed me regarding mice issue in the subdivision to give me a choice to consider to by a house or look somewhere else. If I was informed by Highland homes prior to buying a house regarding mice concern in the subdivision then I would have consider not to by this particular house but look for a house in different area. I canceled contract with Lennar to go with Highland Homes and I regretted it! Sales person was very aggressive and all over. Wasn't even there for closing or call to see how everything went. Not attention to detail nor concern with my needs. Always pushing my concern or additional work to outside source that is clearly a conflict of interest. Home quality is not there, I paid additional cost to update my kitchen cabinets and let's say the workmanship is terrible. Landscaping work is terrible! Have ask them to repair and still no change after three months. ... More

I was disappointed immediately after moving Into our home. Many electrical problems that required me to wait for the tech on multiple days. One day he didn’t even show up. We were told that all appliances were tested. Which would of been impossible because my dishwasher didn’t have power going to it. So a flat out lie. No one inspected the house, or they would have found multiple outlets with no power and the crossed wires in my garage. The home’s media box where the modem and router go are at the furthest point in the house. Sadly we have poor signal because of this. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER HOME FROM THEM. ... More

We’ve bought several new homes in the past 20 years and I must say this is the worst by far in regards to quality, workmanship and service. We selected Highland in Wright’s Landing 50’s based on the advice of our broker and the fact that our last neighborhood in May Valley only had Highland and Village Builder homes - which were of superb quality. The appeal of selecting an employer owned company was also attractive because of the assumed personal attachment to the craftsmanship, quality and details of the finished product. The contractors used in the construction process simply either don’t care or are incompetent or both. Sadly, construction management does little to reinforce these issues. The experience was so disappointing, that the director of construction management for the greater Houston area changed project managers after we closed on the home because of his ineptitude. The second construction manager was much, much better but unfortunately it was too late to change our perception of Highland. It is hard to believe that painters would be sent out 5 times to retouch the same spot on a wall, which is still shoddy. Can you believe that we were told by their electricians that it is acceptable for our lights to dim and flicker when we vacuum or use a blender because this is a byproduct of the house’s energy efficient design? (We were literally told this by Highland electricians two weeks ago). Their main concern was to get us to sign the affidavit, which we begrudgingly did due to the exhaustion from this process. We are embarrassed to tell family and friends that our new home is a Highland product and to tell them the unfinished, sloppy concrete stories (which still exist) or the tacky cabinet and doors finishes issues (which I am looking at now). It’s interesting to note that the sales experience was amazing. This poor rating addresses the pre and post construction process and poor customer service related issues. At this time, we would not recommend Highland to anyone and would welcome a phone call or visit from one of their executives. ... More
