The northern part of San Francisco is often referred to as the North Bay and contains several cities like Fairfield, Napa and Vallejo with Santa Rosa being the largest. The North Bay Area is connected to San Francisco by the famous landmark Golden Gate Bridge and to the East Bay by the Richmond- San Rafael Bridge as well as the Carquinez Bridge which crosses the San Pablo Bay between Crockett and Vallejo.

North San Francisco is the location of the Napa and Sonoma Wine Regions and is by far the least populated and urbanized part of the larger Bay area. However, the surrounding neighborhoods in this area have beautifully constructed houses by some of San Francisco’s finest builders. The communities are often situated sparsely in the lovely rolling hills of the North Bay allowing residents privacy and calm away from the big city. They are also well stocked with the latest modern amenities that make living there enjoyable, such as spacious parking, fitness studios and swimming pools among others.

Consequently, getting around in this region is even easier through the use of ferry routes operating between the North Bay and San Francisco metropolitan area. These are accessed from the terminals located in several locations throughout the North Bay including Vallejo and Tiburon. Besides water transport there is a commuter rail service from Fairfield to Sacramento and Oakland which is provided by Amtrak on its Capitol Corridor line.

The recreational possibilities in the North Bay range from parks and sports fields to swimming pools, picnic grounds and auditoriums. Moreover, there are also various museums and art galleries that you can always visit if you enjoy art and history. The nightlife in this part of San Francisco is a little more tame than the main city but there are still ample opportunities to go clubbing, dancing or eating out.

If you are looking to raise a family in the North Bay, the area contains excellent schools such as Novato High School and North Bay Christian Academy among many others.

If the North Bay has captured your interest and you'd like to go house-hunting your best place to start that search is which includes information on the houses available, their prices, neighboring communities and also their proximity to some of the surrounding cities.
